Sy is die buite-egtelike dogter van Johanna de Clerq, vrou van Peter Bekker; die vader was miskien Mattheus de Maker afkomstig van Sas, wat in 1711-1717 as korporaal in Waveren gewerk het vir die VOC. Hercules koop die plaas 'Artois' waar hy grootgeword op 21 September 1742 van sy ma.[1]
